This life is enduring
With its road to nowhere
Past, present obscuring
What’s worth to care
Young and old procuring
Not enough to share
It’s called maturing
Better single not a pair
No need for manicuring
Not falling into disrepair
Prince of the park benches
That’s me I suppose
Like a lady of the night
It’s the life we chose
This life is subsisting
With its ups and downs
No time for resisting
The jugglers and clowns
Clenched smile assisting
Through strange towns
Not one for coexisting
Soft beds eiderdowns
Tortured memories persisting
To abandon the frowns
King of the highways
That’s me I suppose
Like a dancer for money
It’s the life we chose
This life is living
With its knocks and blows
Got no misgiving
The scars and it shows
Fought well now reliving
The road that arose
Have to be forgiving
Stand back composed
Under the stars unforgiving
Nature for company, I close
Gentleman of the road
That’s me I suppose
Wouldn’t change anything
It’s the life I chose | |
