The Insect Mob (Scary Monsters)
There’s a strange noise coming
From inside the hollow tree
The insect mob want to investigate
But no one will go and see

They can hear a scuffling
Then a kind of a bump
The scuffling starts again
Then at the end another bump

I’me going to have a look said Boris
I’ve had no sleep all night
It is distracting murmured Sybil snail
And now its nearly daylight

I’ll go with you piped up Doug dragonfly
Be ready in a minute
Anyone else want to come
Not me said willy wasp I’ve not finished my biscuit

All you think about is food
Martha moth said smiling
Dipping biscuits is my favourite said willy
They are absolutely ravishing

Come on then piped up Boris beetle
I’ve got some climbing ropes and hooks
We can swing out over the branches
Then go down and take a look

That sounds a bit dangerous to me
Harold the hairy caterpillar spoke
It’s okay if the knots are tight
Frosty the fly croaked

Yes but who knows how to tie knots
I do said Sammy spider
All different sorts of knots I know
I make my web with them don’t I

Yes your webs are quiet strong
Eric earwig whispered quietly
You are also good at dangling from ropes
Although sometimes looking unsightly

Just then they heard the scuffling again
It was like pitter patter then a bump
Sybil snail said its definitely in the tree next door
But it sounds more like a clump

I’me scared said frosty fly
I am going to hide under my bed
Don’t be silly said Bertie bumble bee
I’ll have a look instead

So Bertie and Martha moth
Flew out of the den into the hollow tree
Everyone could here them buzzing around
But the clumping carried on you see

Willy the wasp was hungry
So he asked Lucy for another cup of tea
Its thirsty work he moaned
I am not going to go and see

Bertie and Martha came back
We can’t see anything in there
It’s to dark inside the hollow
And the noise gave us a scare

Why don’t you go in there belle
Eric smiled quite cheekily
With your big wings you could
Glide in and out quite easily

You must be joking darling
Belle the butterfly replied
My beautiful wings in that dark place
Who knows what’s inside

Anyway I am going out tonight
And my nail varnish is not dry
You know I’me a debutante
A lady emperor butterfly

Willy and frosty laughed out loud
What’s a debutante they giggled
It’s a model like me said belle
Who can shake the walk and wiggle

Well you should help around here more
Lucy ladybird frowned
Instead of always preening yourself
And going out on the town

The entire insect world knows me
I’me always the belle of the ball
Whichever tree party I go to
Lady emperor butterfly known by all

Just then the noise grew louder
Patter, patter, patter bump
Willy dropped his biscuits
And knocked over the sugar lumps

Everyone dived for cover
Frosty the fly tripped and fell
They all ran and left him
He said I don’t feel very well

Patter, patter bump patter, patter bump
The noise was outside their den
Gertie grasshopper jumped right into the air
And bumped her head again

The insect mob were really panicking now
Running nowhere quick
Frosty was tripped up again
He said I think I’me going to be sick

Willy said mind my biscuits
You’re treading them into the floor
Just then everyone stopped
A loud knock came at the door

Who would dare answer it
I’ll go stammered Sydney slug
He went slowly towards the door
Giving his shoulders a shrug

The insect mob was frozen to the spot
As Sydney opened the door
There on the landing was Cyril centipede
With ninety nine legs on the floor

Can someone help me please
Whispered Cyril the centipede
Slipped of a log and hurt my leg
I was running at to much speed

The doctor put this wooden splint on it
But it keeps making a noise
Ninety nine clump ninety nine clump
I’ve lost all of my poise

Well the insect mob fell about laughing
You scared us all to bits
We thought it was a monster
Yes said Willy and I’ve lost all my biscuits

So the insect mob put Cyril to bed
Until his leg was better
Martha made him a nice cup of tea
And Eric wrote him a letter

Bertie bumble made him some honey
Arthur ant read him a story
I wasn’t really scared said frosty the fearless fly
But my voice has gone all hoary

Belle gave him a big sloppy kiss
Willy and Martha rode his bike to the shop
I’ll get six packets of biscuits he said
And I might buy Cyril some fizzy pop
